Description
A Chinese carved Shoushan stone figure depicting Shoulao, the God of Longevity. The figure is rendered in a variably coloured, semi-translucent stone featuring amber, reddish-brown, and mottled earth tones. The deity is shown with traditional attributes including a prominent high forehead, a flowing beard, a gnarled staff, and a peach. The reverse of the carving bears an incised inscription in Chinese characters referencing the Gengshen Mid-Autumn Festival in Taiyuan. The base comprises a large, four-character archaic seal script face filled with red cinnabar paste.
