Description
A set of British pre-decimal coinage issued for the coronation year of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The collection comprises various denominations including the half crown, two shillings, one shilling, sixpence, threepence, penny, halfpenny, and farthing. The coins are struck in cupro-nickel, nickel-brass, and bronze. Each obverse features the laureate portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick with the inscription ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA BRITT: OMN: REGINA F: D:. The reverses display various national symbols including the royal arms, the Tudor rose, a portcullis, and the Golden Hind.
