A Reuben Heaton vintage mechanical hanging scale, or spring balance, primarily constructed of metal with a silver-colored dial and a red pointer. The dial is marked with large black numbers 1 through 7, indicating primary weight units, with smaller subdivisions up to 15 between each major numeral. Central markings identify it as “REUBEN EATON,” with an address “33 OLD STREETLY RD., WEST MIDLANDS B74 3JZ,” and “THE EVER READY SCALE Makers,” featuring an engraved portrait of a man flanked by decorative agricultural motifs. The reverse features a metal casing and a rectangular label indicating a “PRESET FOR BASKET APPROX. 1/4 lbs. or .5 kilo.” and specific usage instructions including “DO NOT DROP ON HOOK,” and warnings not to “GREASE PIN ON OR RACK” or “GREASE OR OIL SPRING!” The scale is equipped with a metal hanging hook at the top and a measurement hook at the bottom.
