A Plaza Ware art pottery jardiniere, executed in the style of Bretby’s ‘Bamboo Ware’ and dating to the late 19th century, circa 1890s. This oblong, boat-shaped ceramic vase or planter features two pierced handles and a footed base. The exterior is adorned with raised, polychrome relief decoration depicting multiple figures in traditional Japanese or East Asian attire, possibly geishas or entertainers, against a textured, light brown ground with yellow highlights and dark brown wave-like motifs. The interior is dark brown/black. The underside of the base is marked in raised lettering ‘PLAZA WARE,’ ‘REG N° APPO FLK,’ and the number ‘2062.’
