A circulated Bank of England Twenty Pounds banknote, issued circa 1970s-1980s, featuring Queen Elizabeth II and signed by D. H. F. Somerville, Chief Cashier. The obverse displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, a depiction of St. George slaying the Dragon, and a seated allegorical figure. The serial number is “72E 174087”. Text includes “BANK OF ENGLAND” and “I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF TWENTY POUNDS”. The reverse prominently features a portrait of William Shakespeare, dated “1564-1616”, alongside a theatrical scene.
