A circulated Bank of England Twenty Pounds banknote from the Shakespeare Series (P380/B351), featuring the signature of D.H.F. Somervell as Chief Cashier. The note is predominantly colored in green, purple, and brown tones. The obverse displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown and necklace, alongside a vignette of Saint George slaying the Dragon. Text on this side includes “BANK OF ENGLAND”, “I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF TWENTY POUNDS”, “LONDON FOR THE GOVR AND COMPY OF THE BANK OF ENGLAND”, the serial number “72E 174087”, and the signature “D. H. F. SOMERVELL CHIEF CASHIER”. A small circular depiction of Britannia is also present. The reverse features a full-length image of William Shakespeare, accompanied by the text “William Shakespeare 1564-1616” and a background scene depicting two figures on a balcony.
