The decoration is executed in underglaze blue on a white ground, depicting alternating cartouches that enclose various scholarly objects and antiquities, such as stacked books, vases with flowers, and scrolls, against a backdrop of stylized floral and cloud motifs. The base of one vase bears an underglaze blue four-character reign mark, reading ‘康熙年製’ (Kāngxī nián zhì), which translates to “Made in the Kangxi reign.”
