Antiques & Collectables, Gold & Silver (14% Buyers Commission)
A collection of Sandland Ware ‘Down Somerset Way’ ceramic and electroplated nickel silver serving pieces, dating from the mid-20th century. The group comprises five ceramic items: a large footed jar with a bail handle, a smaller rectangular serving dish, a small lidded jar, and a small bowl. These ceramic pieces are decorated with colorful transfer-printed pastoral or village scenes featuring half-timbered houses and figures, with the text “Down Somerset Way” visible beneath one scene. Accompanying the ceramic items are a small metal tray and several small metal serving spoons. Metal fittings, including lids, rims, and a handle, are present on some pieces. Markings such as “YEOMAN PLATE E.P.N.S. MADE IN ENGLAND” are visible on the large jar’s rim, and “E.P.N.S.” on a spoon, indicating electroplated nickel silver. A prominent base mark on the ceramic reads “SANDLAND WARE,” “LANCASTER & SANDLAND LTD.,” “HANLEY,” “STAFFORDSHIRE,” “ENGLAND,” alongside a logo depicting two hands shaking.
