A collection of four pieces of blue and white ceramic transferware, dating from the late 19th to mid-20th century. The lot comprises two scalloped-edge plates, one square serving dish with integral handles, and one round serving plate with integral handles.
One scalloped-edge plate features a transfer-printed scene of a sailing ship on a loch with a floral border, commonly known in the market as ‘Lochs of Scotland’ by Royal Warwick. The reverse is clearly marked ‘Lochsol Scotland WALSH BROS. ENGLAND’ with additional text ‘GENUINE HAND ENGRAVING, PERMANENT UNDERGLAZE, DISHWASHER & MICROWAVE RESISTING COLORS’.
The second scalloped-edge plate depicts a classical landscape with a grand building and a leafy border.
The square serving dish with integral handles features a classical landscape with a grand building and figures. The reverse is marked ‘MASON’S VISTA ENGLAND’.
The round serving plate with integral handles depicts the New York Crystal Palace during an International Industrial Exhibition, surrounded by an acorn and leaf border. The reverse is marked ‘New York Crystal Palace HISTORIC AMERICA Johnson Bros. England IRONSTONE’.
The scalloped-edge plates each measure approximately 25.5 cm (10 inches) in diameter.
The square serving dish measures approximately 23 cm (9 inches) square.
The round serving plate with handles measures approximately 28 cm (11 inches) across the handles.
