Lot 147: An Edwardian Birmingham 925 Silver Engine-Turned Pill Box
This small, round, lidded box is crafted from 925 silver with a gilt interior. The lid features finely executed engine-turned decoration comprising concentric circles of wavy and radiating patterns. Visible hallmarks on the side of the base include the English lion passant, an anchor mark for the Birmingham assay office, a crowned monarch’s head duty mark, and a lower-case ‘j’ within a square punch, indicating a date of 1908/09. An indistinct maker’s mark is also present.
