A pair of vintage Chinese framed silk embroidery panels, each depicting a vibrant, multi-colored natural scene on a cream-colored silk ground. The upper panel features a detailed landscape with various birds, including a stylized pheasant or phoenix, smaller songbirds, and ducks in water, set amongst blooming plum blossoms and a prominent red sun. It bears the Chinese characters ‘万春报鸟’ (Wàn chūn bào niǎo), translating to ‘Ten Thousand Springs Announce Birds’ or ‘Spring Awakens the Birds,’ along with a single character ‘鸟’ (niǎo, ‘bird’). The lower panel showcases two peacocks gracefully perched on a blossoming plum branch, accompanied by the Chinese inscription ‘雅志長春’ (Yǎ zhì cháng chūn), translating to ‘Elegant Aspiration, Eternal Spring,’ and a distinct red square seal mark. Both pieces are executed in a traditional Chinese embroidery style and are presented under glass in simple gold-toned metal frames.
