Antiques, Silver & Gold (14% Buyers Commission)
This lot comprises a collection of disassembled aneroid barometer components. It includes at least four ornate, carved wooden wall-mount backings, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th-century, featuring decorative scrolling and foliate motifs in dark-stained hardwood. Accompanying these are numerous circular white enamel or porcelain dials, some marked “MADE IN ENGLAND,” displaying meteorological terms such as “RAIN,” “Stormy,” “Changeable,” “FAIR,” “Very Dry,” and pressure scales ranging from approximately 28 to 31 inches, with additional indicators for “RISE,” “FALL,” and wind directions. Further components include several brass bezels, a small aneroid mechanism visible within one wooden backing, and a wooden tray containing miscellaneous parts such as various barometer/clock hands, screws, small weights, a glass jar, and a red metal tin. A wooden cigar box, marked in Spanish “ELABORADOS A MANO 100% CANARIAS” (Handmade 100% Canary Islands) and bearing a warning “Fumar daña los pulmones” (Smoking damages the lungs), also holds some parts.
