A George V sterling silver engine-turned cigarette or card case, crafted by M.H.M in Birmingham in 1930. This silver-toned, rectangular hinged case features rounded corners and a side clasp. Its exterior is decoratively engine-turned with alternating vertical bands of chevron and linear patterns, further embellished with two stylized wing appliqués and an engraved “EM” monogram. Hallmarks on the exterior clearly show the maker’s mark “M.H.M”, a lion passant indicating sterling silver, an anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and a capital ‘F’ within a square punch, corresponding to the year 1930. The interior features two black elastic straps and additional partial hallmarks including the lion passant and anchor, though a different date letter ‘B’ or ‘R’ is visible on one side, alongside a faint six-digit number.
