A Late Victorian sterling silver fob medal. This ornate piece exhibits a late Victorian or Edwardian aesthetic, featuring a central blank escutcheon for engraving, surrounded by intricate scrollwork, foliage motifs, and a blank banner cartouche at the base. A stylized crown or crest element adorns the top, below a suspension loop. The reverse, otherwise plain, clearly displays British hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling silver, an anchor indicating the Birmingham Assay Office, and a capital ‘X’ date letter for the year 1897. A maker’s mark, possibly ‘J.F’ for James Fenton, is also visible.
