A set of five brass ‘Ashfield’ show plaques. Each circular, wheel-like cast metal disc features a central raised hub and ten radial segments enclosed by an outer rim. Around the perimeter, each segment is permanently inscribed with a raised letter, spelling out “A S H I F F I E L D” clockwise from the bottom-left segment. Within certain segments, there are punched or recessed numbers, such as ‘1’, ‘9’, ‘8’, ‘7’, and ‘0’ visible on the top disc, or small circular holes; these numbers appear to vary among the individual discs within the set, likely indicating specific dates or codes. The inscription ‘SHIFFIELD’ is a known misspelling of ‘Sheffield’ or a variant of ‘Ashfield’, consistent with the item’s likely origin or association with an industrial region.
