General Sale - 1st September 2025
A collection of five modern British one pound coins, struck in a brass-toned base metal alloy. All obverses uniformly display a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the inscription “ELIZABETH II D.G. REG. F.D.” (Elizabeth the Second, By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) and various dates, including visible examples from 1977, 1993, and 1994, indicating different effigies and issue years. The reverse designs are diverse, featuring national emblems: a Welsh dragon, three English lions, a Scottish thistle, and a Northern Irish Celtic knotwork cross. One coin specifically depicts Edinburgh Castle, beneath which is the Latin motto “NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT” (No one provokes me with impunity). All coins clearly bear the denomination “ONE POUND”. The market for British one pound coins includes notable interest in specific variants, such as the 1983 issue with an ‘upside down’ edge lettering error, which commands significant attention from collectors.
