General Sale - 1st September 2025
A George III sterling silver vinaigrette, assayed in London in 1801, bearing the maker’s mark ‘AT’. This ornate, oblong piece features a hinged lid and scalloped edges. The exterior is decorated with an engine-turned, wave-patterned ground across the top and sides, further enhanced with repoussé floral and foliate motifs. The top lid displays a central, scrolled cartouche containing an engraved script monogram “B.” Opening the main lid reveals a second, hinged, gilt-washed internal lid intricately pierced with foliate scrollwork, beneath which lies a gilt-washed compartment. Visible hallmarks on the interior confirm the London assay office (crowned leopard’s head), sterling standard (lion passant), maker’s mark “AT,” and the date letter ‘f’ within a shaped shield, corresponding to 1801.
