A pair of circular, lidded ceramic boxes, identified as Japanese Satsuma Ware. Each box is decorated with a central haloed figure, likely Guanyin, seated on stylized clouds with a smaller accompanying figure. The decoration features vibrant, raised enamel-like elements in shades of blue, green, and white, accented with extensive gilding. This is set against a two-tone ground transitioning from a dark reddish-brown on the lower portion to a brighter orange around the main figures. The sides of the boxes are a dark reddish-brown with scattered gold stippling, and a white scroll pattern adorns the base rim. The interiors are white-glazed. No visible text or markings are apparent on the exterior surfaces.
