General Sale - 1st September 2025
A pair of Victorian sterling silver candlesticks, each featuring a stepped circular base adorned with reeded bands, supporting a simple, tapering stem with a plain candle cup. Both candlesticks are clearly hallmarked on their bases, including the crowned leopard’s head for London assay and the lion passant confirming sterling silver. One candlestick also bears the maker’s mark ‘B&Co’ and an Old English capital ‘P’ date letter within a shaped shield, suggesting an 1870-1871 Victorian manufacture, complete with a Queen Victoria duty mark. The second candlestick features a lowercase ‘p’ date letter within a rectangular shield with cut corners, indicating a likely earlier Victorian period around 1850-1851.
