General Sale - 1st September 2025
This lot comprises three distinct commemorative medals, each housed within a red-lined presentation box. The largest medal is a patinated bronze medallion depicting a classical or allegorical figure strenuously pulling a rope through a stylized landscape, identified through web intelligence as Robert Tait McKenzie’s ‘The Joy of Effort,’ dating to 1914. The top-left medal, crafted from a yellowish metal resembling brass or gilt bronze, features the inscription “IVYBRIDGE COLLEGE” and “SOUTH MOOR” surrounding a landscape motif. The top-right medal, made from a darker bronze or copper, displays the text “LANCING COLLEGE” and a heraldic shield with a banner inscribed “BEATU MUNDO” (Latin, translating to “Blessed to the world”), exhibiting a traditional academic style. All three medals appear to be of 20th-century origin.
